In view of the energy crisis and expensive electricity, many people are increasingly keen to save electricity. This can be done quite simply by unplugging appliances after switching them off. This usually makes sense, but there are also appliances that should not be unplugged.<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Charging cables for smartphones, laptops, etc. should be unplugged from the socket when no device is connected. Even without charging, power plugs can consume around 1 kilowatt hour of electricity per year and the parts often get warm when they are not in use. If all smartphone owners in Germany were to leave their power adapter unused at the socket for hours on end, then according to a study by the electricity company Vattenfall, this would consume enough energy to supply over 2,000 two-person households with electricity for a year. Unplug kettles, toasters, coffee machines and microwaves in the kitchen too, as this also reduces the risk of fire. In the living room and study, you can safely unplug the games console, receiver and laptop\/PC. Even in stand-by mode, their power consumption is considerable and, according to the consumer advice centre, can account for up to 20 % of electricity consumption in a three-person household. The German Energy Agency reports that around 100 euros per year could be saved if all hidden consumers were eliminated.<\/span>

Other electrical devices, such as smart TVs, voice assistants or similar, are often connected to the WiFi router, which is why these are disconnected from the WiFi as soon as the router is without power. This is therefore recommended for longer absences. However, the router does not have to be completely disconnected from the mains to save power. Simply deactivate the Wi-Fi signal during bedtime using the timer in the device settings or by pressing a button on the router. OLED televisions should also be left on, as they automatically update their pixels in the background; a kind of nightly regeneration run for the display. If the TV is disconnected from the power supply too often, the picture quality can suffer. And if, like me, you're wondering why the printer is constantly running out of ink, it's better to leave the printer unplugged. Every time you restart the printer, it resets itself and performs a print head cleaning run. This consumes a lot of ink, which is usually more expensive than the electricity saved.<\/p>There are now many little helpers for saving electricity... whether smart home technology, which makes saving energy easier for us, manually switchable power strips or timers and app-controlled intelligent intermediate plugs (radio-controlled sockets). Ultimately, the important thing is that every kilowatt hour saved ensures that less fossil fuels are consumed and therefore more CO2 is saved.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
