Information about the calculation of average points

To be able to compare teams of different sizes, we introduced average points, average minutes and average km as metrics for challenges.

How are the points calculated?

After completing a workout we save the points of the workout as well as the average points for the team. This means we divide the points for the workout by the number of team members. This is done in the moment when the workout is finished. This means if a member joins or leaves after this date, the points won’t change.

Simple example:

We have a team with two members. Member one finishes a workout and collects 1000 points for the team. So the average points will be 500. If a third member joins, the average points will still be 500. If one team member finishes a workout after the third team member joined and also collects 1000 points for the team, the average points which will be added are 333 (1000/3). So after all this the team will have 2000 total points and 833 average points.

Why is this implemented like that?

This question has a simple answer. We want to have a fair metric and want to protect your challenge from fraud as good as possible. The only other possible solution would be to just divide the total points by the number of team members in real time, but this would make it possible to just let all team members except one leave the challenge short time before it is over. This would then increase the average points a lot, because there is only one user left in the team.

What about divisions and the challenge points?

This is calculated the same way. In the moment the workout is finished, we divide the points of the workout by the number of athletes who take place in the challenge or are part of your division.
